Stupidly Theatrical | Chris Mead

🏢 Long Kiln room, Farnham Maltings, Bridge Square, Farnham GU9 7QR
🕥 16th March, 11am-4pm (30 minute break)
💰 £50

When people think of theatrical improv they often think of grounded, emotionally-led improv with great character relationships. They think of love stories and rivalries and the unburdening of dreadful truths. In short, everything is very dramatic.

But in this workshop, we're going to keep all the relationships and emotional truth - and then we're going to improvise silly, joyous, wonderful scenes full of friendship, laughter, riotous genre work and madcap energy.

We're going to have our theatrical cake AND eat it.

You'll learn:

  • How to happily sit in a scene with confidence
  • How to forge INSTANT CONNECTIONS with other characters
  • To explore monoscenes and longer character-led pieces
  • To play ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances

And all in the beautiful surroundings of a rural malt house turned art centre.

The class will run 5 hours with a 30 minute break included which is SCIENTIFICALLY-PROVEN to leave you with more energy than a 7 hour workshop with an hour break included. PLUS you get a free ticket to the 6pm Pretend Night jam that evening at the same venue - featuring players from the local community and some ringers from that there London.

AND we've kept the price down so you can plan a day trip from London and not be out of pocket.

Good to know

  • In terms of experience level, this workshop is suitable for anyone who can confidently improvise a three minute scene - we'll be pushing you from that comfy starting point
  • Class size is up to 16 students
  • If you'd like to come but can't afford the full fee - email hello@chrismead.co and we'll work something out
  • The Maltings is a 5-10min walk from Farnham station which is itself just 1 hour from London Waterloo.
