This is Pretend Night.

Pretend Night is a whole evening of improvised theatre from The Pretend Company consisting of an improv skill raiser workshop from 6-7:30pm and a show at 8pm.

Our workshops concentrate on one skill per session and really push you to develop and grow as a performer. They are for improvisers who want to progress in the craft - we expect all students to already have experience performing and know how to sustain scene work.

• We will start at 6pm and the session will only have a brief warm-up before moving into exercises and scene work for 90 mins, no break
• We will focus on a different skill each month
• The class size will be limited to 14 people maximum

Explore bold, distinctive character creation through physicality and voice.

This workshop focuses on using changes in movement, posture, and vocal quality to open up characters that feel far from your everyday self. The session leans toward a physical-first approach, beginning with the body and allowing other choices to layer on as we go.

Expect to take risks and step outside your comfort zone in a supportive, playful environment.

By the end of the session, you’ll have had the chance to play with a range of character creation techniques.

Experience level and core skills required:

This workshop is designed for people with some experience in long-form improv and a desire to create more grounded, character-based scenes.

About Alex

Alex is an Australian improviser and actor known for her incredible character work and commitment to big, bold offers. She’s trained at Improv Theatre Sydney, The Free Association and at renowned French clown school Ecole Philippe Gaulier. Before falling in love with improv, she trained as an actor and holds a Bachelor of Performance. She currently performs as part of the Free Association’s House Team ‘Sweetheart’
