BODY & VOICE

🏢 Venue TBC (but in London)
🕥 Sat 18th July - Sunday 19th July, 11am - 5pm (with 1 hour for lunch)
💰 £200

In this workshop, Anne Rab and Ursula Anna Baumgartner (BEMME & MELANGE) combine their expertise to create a well-rounded, comprehensive experience: Anne focuses on working with the body, while Ursula devotes herself entirely to the voice. How can we tell stories “just” with our bodies? What happens when we simply leave out the spoken word and discover all that we can create thanks to our bodies? In non-verbal improvisation, we may forego words, but we often rely on sound effects and “emotional sounds” as supporting tools: but how does our voice actually work, and how can we best prepare it for a performance? Ursula opens her toolbox and shares with you the most effective warm-up exercises, access to different vocal qualities, and tips for when, in the heat of the moment, you’ve gone a little overboard and your voice has suffered a bit. And of course we’ve saved the best till last: we combine body and voice, discovering endless possibilities for creating multifaceted characters.

When Anne Rab and Ursula Anna Baumgartner met in Vienna, it was love at first scene. Since 2019, they have been playing their way through the improv world as “BEMME & MELANGE” with expressive physicality and an affinity for bold characters. The two-time Munich ImproCup-winning duo have performed at the NOW! Festival in Beijing, Narrativa in Valencia, MOMENTA Leipzig and the Flock Festival in Amsterdam, among others. With their current show “Sound Off!”, they explore how important the spoken word really is, in the art of storytelling.
