Playfulness is at the core of improvisation. It makes a good scene wonderful and a bad scene comfortable.

But where does playfulness hide? How do you bring it out in yourself?

As a recovering control freak I can teach you something about how to find that spark. Finding your playfulness is (also) a skill, and I have the tools for you to train that muscle.

Through a series of fun games, probing exercises and reflection on yourselves we will find your ‘play’. As a result: next time you are taking the scene / the show / improv a little too seriously, you can fall back on the tips and tricks of this workshop.

It will take some practice. And some fun, light and die-hard playing.

About Laura

When Laura is not traveling the world, she can be found cycling the Amsterdam canals between her jobs as trainer, performer, entrepreneur, and cat mom.

Laura has a background in scripted theatre, dancing, business, and directing plays. With her 20+ years of teaching experience, she also teaches other improv teachers.

A lot of improv is about discovery. But it's also about doing reps, getting personal feedback, playing the same scene again and trying new paths.

In this workshop, you will set up your goals and reflect on what you want from your improv right now in order to get the most accurate feedback and notes possible. Through semi-directed scenes, side-coaching, stop & go methods and a lot of scenes, you will work on your patterns to drastically improve your scenework and become a better partner.

About Gael

Gael has been doing improv for almost 20 years, starting in Strasbourg and now in Amsterdam. He's the co-founder of Flock Theatre, Anananas & Pampamplemousse (formerly La Carpe Haute), the SIN (a network of improvisers across Europe), and Safe Play, a community focused on creating a safer improv environment. After leading IMPRO Amsterdam, he's now the co-Artistic Director of Improfestival Karlsruhe and the Flock Festival in Amsterdam.

Gael loves teaching and performing with Laura Doorneweerd-Perry. They toured with their show "Object of Affection" around the world before settling in Amsterdam where they produce unscripted theatre and collaborate with other artists.

His latest passion is the practice of Soundpainting, a multidisciplinary language to compose in real-time with an ensemble of artists. Gael’s improv style is playful and heartfelt, blending physicality, kindness, and a dash of craziness.
