Join Pro Coro Canada and guests Kappella Kyrie (dir. Melanie Turgeon) as we explore one of the most celebrated liturgies of the Eastern Christian tradition, full of heart and steeped in mysticism throughout the rich tapestry of sound.
Canadian composer Peter-Anthony Togni's setting of The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom is a call for compassion and charity in troubled times. John Chysostom was himself a famed speaker and prolific author of the early church, as well as the Archbishop of Constantinople, known for his emphasis on caring for the poor and less-fortunate in his homilies. While inspired by the classic setting of the liturgy by Rachmaninoff, Togni considers this setting as a prayer for peace in light of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
We will be joined by Peter-Anthony Togni for a brief talk about the work at 7:00 PM before the concert begins at 7:30 PM.
Come experience a profound and moving evening through the Alberta premiere of this beautiful work as we embark on a deeply spiritual and emotional journey together.
