Create Your Own Wearable Art with Indigo and Shibori
Spend an afternoon discovering the magic of indigo dyeing and the ancient Japanese art of shibori at Production Mode!
In a relaxed environment, artist Susanne Rott will guide a small group (max 8 students) through itajime techniques including wrapping, folding, and clamping techniques in order to create two different silk scarves.

During the afternoon, we will:
explore the science and history of indigo
study inspiring examples
demonstrate techniques, and
do multiple indigo vat dips together

Beginners are welcome and advanced students are encouraged to explore further.
Two pre-washed silk scarves and all shibori materials will be provided.
Walk away with beautiful scarves you will love to wear. Dress for a beautiful mess!
Light refreshments will be available to enjoy while you create.

Note: Every dye bath is different, as many factors influence the color results. Colors shown here are approximations of what students can expect, not 1:1 guarantees- that's part of the fun and magic of natural dyeing!
All sales are final.

Susanne Rott is a Chicago-based shibori textile artist whose work is rooted in the ancient Japanese art of resist dyeing. Having studied with shibori masters in Japan and the United States, she uses techniques such as itajime, arashi, kumo, and nui to fold, bind, and stitch fabric into patterns that balance intention and spontaneity.
Shibori is an organic process shaped by the interaction of fabric, dye, and technique, always leaving room for surprise. Guided by the philosophy of wabi-sabi—the beauty of imperfection—she creates textiles meant to be lived with, whether worn as scarves, displayed as wall pieces, or used as expressive accessories.
