Soil Health Workshop: From Field to Microscope
Join Jamie and Mary from Life to Lab for a practical workshop on soil health, from field observations to the microscope. This session will cover on-farm soil assessment, plant indicators, and how management practices influence both plant and soil health.
Through a live microscopy session examining soil and compost samples, Life to Lab will also explore the biology that drives productive soils. Together, we'll identify key organisms within the soil food web and use biological diagnostics to discuss what they can tell us about soil health, nutrient cycling, and practical opportunities to improve soil management.
This event is primarily for farmers and land managers who want to better understand indicators of soil health. Participants are welcome to bring their own soil or compost samples and, time permitting, we may be able to examine selected samples during the session.
Meeting place: Meet outside Cochno House. Free parking is available on site.
What to bring: Outdoor clothing, suitable footwear for field conditions, and optionally a soil or compost sample from your farm.
Cost: Free event. Lunch will be provided.
