Sustainability and Soil Health
Farmers and growers are invited to join this knowledge sharing farm walk and workshop to explore soils and sustainability.
Our weather patterns continue to become increasingly erratic and unpredictable, impacting production, yield and profitability. As the weather changes, farming needs to change too. Our soils are the foundation of our farms - and the key to a more resilient and sustainable system. With the right management, soil can be the sponge that helps us in both heavy rain and drought, and a healthy soil can mean less need for fertiliser and other inputs.
This workshop will be guided by Agroecologist Abi Mordin, and Soil Scientist Mary Silk. We'll compare and contrast different fields and areas that have been managed in different ways, and discuss what's needed to plan for and make changes that increase resilience and sustainability.
The session starts with a free lunch (who said there was no such thing!) and will finish up with a microscope session and time for Q&A. The farm walk will take in the Sustainable Kirriemuir Community Farm land, alongside Kinnordy in-hand farm fields.
The day is organised by Propagate in collaboration with Sustainable Kirriemuir, and Kinnordy Estate, and is part of the Scottish Agroecology Partnership's 'Upscaling Agroecology' programme, funded by the Scottish Government Knowledge Transfer Innovation Fund.
