Farm Tour: Building Resilient Grazing Systems with Native Breeds

Join the Greater Glasgow & Clydeside Farmer Cluster for an afternoon at Killochries Fold, Lukestone Farm focusing on the role of native breeds in building resilient grazing systems and supporting biodiversity.

Killochries Fold, run by Iain and Sheena Graham, has been home to pedigree Highland cattle since 1995. The fold spans rough, heather-clad hill ground and lower grassland pastures, with the cattle managed outdoors year-round. Alongside its focus on breeding, genetic diversity and performance, the farm places importance on land management and conservation, including grazing management that support heather regeneration and birdlife.

The event will also be joined by Alice Lennox, Scottish Co-ordinator for the Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST). The RBST works to champion the native livestock breeds that shape our landscapes, strengthen biodiversity and future-proof farming. Alice works across Scotland to promote native livestock and equine breeds, support local members and advocate for sustainable, heritage-focused agriculture. She will share her insights into the value of native and rare breeds and how grazing livestock can work alongside wider conservation objectives in a farmed landscape.

The afternoon will include indoor presentations, lunch and a guided tour of the Highland cattle fold.
