Demonstrating love to our neighbours through acts of kindness - Learning from Uganda

Tue 2 Jun 2026 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM BST Online, MS Teams

Mark-Donald Mwesiga, the Executive Director of the Palliative Care Association of Uganda, and  Kabugho Morius Love , the President of Ishaka Adventist College Palliative Care club, will speak at the webinar

The compassionate community initiative by the Palliative Care Association of Uganda (PCAU) entails working with schools and higher institutions of learning. While working with teams of professional palliative care providers at hospices, PCAU supports the formation of school-based palliative care clubs that undergo basic palliative care orientation and training. The school clubs then develop work plans to reach their neighbours who suffer from health-related issues. On numerous occasions, members of the school's clubs will shadow professional palliative care teams while they do community and home care. You and the children will support cleaning homes, mobilise and deliver basic needs, offer peer support to child caregivers, offer physical help to older persons to move out of their homes, and advocate for and participate in skilling.  At the webinar, the combined presentation of the palliative care clubs of Ishaka Adventist School of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, Ishaka Adventist College, and Ishaka Hospital Primary School will showcase their grounding in acts of kindness towards the neighbours starting with fellow children and youth in schools who faced stigma due to their vulnerabilities caused by health status, poverty, harassment, neglect and abandonment. The presentation will demonstrate the power of organised, non-professional compassionate palliative care providers to transform and improve the dimensions and quality of care for persons, families, and communities facing sickness, loss, grief, and bereavement.
