Basic Drug Awareness in an Orkney context:
Training will take around 2 hours to complete and will cover drugs commonly used in (Scotland and Orkney), why people use drugs and how we can best support people who use drugs.

Learning aims:By the end of the course, participants should have a general understanding of substance use in Scotland and Orkney.

Learning outcomes include:

  • Drugs commonly used (Scotland and Orkney) - paying close attention to the Drugs Wheel, Drug related deaths and Drug related hospital stays.
  • Why people use drugs and how dependency forms (looking into the Bio-Psycho-Social model).Drugs and the law.
  • How we can best support people who use drugs (Harm reduction) (Being trauma informed) and (Cycle of change). What is Naloxone?
