Steps to Sustainability is a free online course for independent and small publishers. It helps publishers take practical steps to reduce their carbon emissions and plan for sustainability.
Steps to Sustainability does the heavy lifting, enabling staff who are short on time and resources to get started and keep going.
Course structure
- Three online workshops on the 16th and 30th of September and the 14th of October. Attendees will need to join all three 1.5 hour sessions.
- Interactive environment and practical exercises
- Ongoing support after the course via our monthly Carbon Catchup
- Step-by-Step guidance on carbon footprinting + tools and templates to get it done
You will leave with a clear sense of what actions to prioritise, and a draft of your carbon footprint.
A limited number of places are available to non-members.
Is this for me?
This course is designed primarily for people who work in publishing companies. Most of the carbon emissions from publishing are caused by the production and freighting of books, and so we pay particular attention to this when we are working on carbon footprinting.
Although the carbon footprint template and training is publisher-specific, network members, freelancers and people who work in the sector more broadly may still benefit from the course’s overall approach to sustainability and leave with a helpful framework for action.
