Join us on the 27^th of October in Edinburgh to build your sustainability knowledge and network.

This event is for anyone in the Scottish publishing sector who wants to learn more about environmental sustainability, whether you are at the beginning of your journey or already working in this area.

The Environmental Sustainability Forum aims to

• Showcase and celebrate progress and inspire continued effort
• Support learning about sustainable practices in the book publishing sector
• Cultivate a network that can support and facilitate action on sustainability

Reasons to join

We’re still finalising the details of our programme, but in the meantime, here’s an outline of what to expect:

• Be inspired by a compelling keynot from outside the publishing sector offering interesting parallels and insights for sustainability in our own industry. Speaker: Hilde W. Frydnes, CCO and Co-Founded of Unfolded.
• Build essential leadership skills for embedding sustainability in your organisation (or team) through a Leadership Masterclass. Speaker: Dr Cecile Feront, expert in change agency and leadership for sustainability. 
• Learn about how thoughtful design and production choices can reduce the impact of a book. The Designed for Sustainability session will showcase books created with sustainability in mind and we'll hear from the people behind them. Production is the greatest source of carbon emissions, and focusing on the books themselves helps makes the challenge more tangible and tractable.
• Discover supply chain progress on sustainability by hearing from suppliers themselves, and gain insight into how best to ask your own suppliers for information through the Unlocking the Supply Chain session.
• Meet and get to know people in the sector working on sustainability. Deepen your learnings and share perspectives in the collegiate, workshop-style setting of a Conversation Café (cake guaranteed).

Important details

Ticketing

At Publishing Scotland, we want to get as many people as possible involved in action on sustainability. Thanks to our funding from Creative Scotland, we can heavily subsidise the Forum, and we only ask a £50 commitment fee for this half-day event. The commitment fee applies to your organisation; additional attendees (up to three per company) can join for free. We ask that additional attendees treat this as a paid ticket and do not cancel at the last minute.

To make sure everyone can come, we also offer some free tickets for attendees for whom the fee is a barrier, for example freelancers or micro-publishers.

In person or online?

This event will be interactive, with an emphasis on connection and conversation. We encourage in-person attendance and have chosen a venue that is accessible and inclusive, and designed the programme to support and facilitate connection.

Equally, we recognise the costs of travel (both monetary and carbon) and the flexibility and accessibility of an online offering. Online tickets are available, and we will make sure that online attendees are included.

Edinburgh Climate Change Institute in an inspiring low-carbon building which is fully accessible.

Gender-neutral toilets and single-sex toilets are available.

A quiet space is available.
