About the course

This course picks up where Introduction to Copyediting left off. It assumes that delegates have attended this course or are familiar with the methods and techniques it contains. Publishing Scotland’s regular tutor Denise Cowle will deliver this 4-hour course online on Zoom.

The course covers:

• recognition and resolution of common copyediting errors
• handling complex texts, including references and illustrations/figures
• editing to meet legal requirements and to ensure inclusivity
• improving narrative while being respectful of and sympathetic to the author’s ‘voice’

CIEP upgrade training points
We are pleased to advise that Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) has confirmed this course is eligible for 2 CIEP upgrade training points.

Who should attend?
The course is suitable for those who have a basic knowledge and/or experience of copyediting.

Tutor

Denise Cowle is a copyeditor and proofreader based in Glasgow. Her clients include a variety of global education publishers, for whom she works on English Language Teaching materials, and businesses and organisations who need support with written content: marketing materials, reports, web content and blogs. Denise also works with independent authors on non-fiction books.

She is an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading and currently serves on their council as marketing director. Denise is also a tutor for the CIEP proofreading and copy-editing online courses.
