Puzzlerun Pilot Event

Sun 31 Aug 2025 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM BST Cotswold Area Civil Service Sports Association, GL51 9SL

Join us for the first ever Puzzlerun event!

Run (or walk) 5km. Solve 10 escape-room puzzles along the way. Get a physical and mental workout, and help us test out a brand new bit of fun.

Please book the wave time of your choice, and be prepared to arrive 20-30 minutes before that (bag drop, stretch, ask questions, etc.).

What is a Puzzlerun?

First off, it's a run, not a race. Come out to have a good time, not set a good time.

As a team of 1-4 participants, you'll run (or walk) about 500 meters to a puzzle station, complete an escape-room-style puzzle, then collect a puzzle piece for your lanyard and get moving to the next puzzle station. After you've solved 10 puzzles / covered 5km, return to the start/finish area to solve the last puzzle and stop your time!

Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Children can spectate, but they must be with their responsible adult at all time. One dog per participant is allowed - just like Parkrun, keep it on a short, non-extendable, handheld leash.

How are answers input and time kept?

We use a webapp to track your time, so it's very important that at least one member of your team brings a smartphone that can access the internet (the more the merrier!). When your wave time arrives, open up the webapp and hit 'GO!'. The webapp will tell you which station to run or walk to (and there will be plenty of signage around as well). When you get there, type the four-digit code from the sign into the webapp to get started with the puzzle (this stops your 'running' timer and starts your 'puzzling' timer). You'll also type your guesses and get hints in the webapp.

It's all set up to be as simple and smooth as possible - and your time can always be seen at the top of the webapp. When you're all done, you can see your times broken down by each run and puzzle!

What to bring

  • You and your amazing team (1-4 people can be on a team)
  • Come ready to run (or walk)!
  • Bring water and snacks if you want them (some may be available to purchase)
  • You're free to leave your bags on the orange tarp in the start/finish area

Would you like to volunteer?

Like most running events, volunteers make things happen. We'd love to have you as a volunteer in a Puzzlerun, and we've designed the event to make your job as simple as possible. Be sure to get a Volunteer 'ticket' and be prepared to arrive by 10am. Your shift would be the duration of the event (from 10am to around 3pm).

Here's what we expect from you during your shift:

Welcome participants to your puzzle station

Direct them to the check-in sign as needed

Once they solve the puzzle and show you the 'complete' icon on their phone, give each participant a puzzle piece

Reset the puzzle for the next participants

Look after the puzzle's materials in general

If you're on-shift to start the event, take the puzzle materials to the station

If you're on-shift to end the event, bring the puzzle materials back to the start / finish area

If you see a participant in need of assistance, let a member of the staff know

Here's what you get for your help:

  • A free Puzzlerun for you, a friend, or anyone else you like.
  • Volunteer-only swag! We naturally need to identify you as a volunteer in some way…

Quick note: Like most running events. Puzzlerun will be taking pictures and/or videos of the test event to use in future social media / marketing posts. If you don't want to appear in these, you can pick up a 'no photos' sticker in the start/finish area =)
