3 miles of possible is a long-form performance wandering among the poetic and practical associations of “the possible” in a world of fluctuating personal, material, political and artistic contingencies. Linda performed mile 1 and mile 2 in 2021 and 2022, respectively, and now closes out the series in the days surrounding the fall equinox with performances of all 3 miles.
Audiences can witness each mile singly or separately or all together in one long-form performance. Audience members are free to come and go during all of the performances. LIMITED SEATING...only 20 per performance.
In this work, Linda animates and wanders along a series of spatial paths totaling 3 miles, envisioned as giant drawings, maps, sigils and/or spells. These paths are threaded through with a variety of movement scores, choreographies, tasks, interactions with objects, guest artists, texts, songs, and sound compositions. Although much of the investigation is movement based, visual, sonic, textual and discursive interventions touch upon utopian longings, possible world theory, hope giving way to grief and back again, and the pleasures of getting lost
Music contributions by Juniana Lanning (Miles 1-3), Maxx Katz (mile 2), Doug Theriault (Mile 2), Seth Nehil (Mile 2) and Stephanie Lavon Trotter (Mile 3).
ASL interpretation by Jourdan Burklund Sept 21-23.
An accompanying Artist's Book designed by Noelle Stiles, with contributions from Linda, Kate Bredeson, Allie Hankins, and Hannah Krafcik and others is available to ticket holders for $15. You can order it along with your ticket, at the performance, or afterwards. Sadly, however, the publication is delayed and you will likely receive it late September.
Made possible in part with support from the Regional Arts & Culture Council, a 2023 winter residency at Djerassi Resident Artist Program and a May 2023 residency at the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation, with help from a Oregon Arts Commission Career Opportunity Grant.
