This September, we are excited to host a UK Young Adult service project dedicated to restoring and enriching this treasured site. We warmly invite young adults aged 18–35 to camp on the Abbey grounds, take part in hands-on service, share in community life, and embrace the spirit of stewardship. Alongside meaningful work, participants will enjoy time at the beautiful beaches of the Isle of Wight and join in organised social activities — building friendships while preserving a place of lasting spiritual importance.

Quarr Abbey is more than a historic landmark; it is a sacred space of reverence and reflection. The rhythm of daily prayer, the stillness of the woodland paths, and the enduring monastic presence create an atmosphere that draws visitors seeking peace, spiritual renewal, and connection with history.

The story of Quarr began in 1132, when Cistercian monks founded a medieval abbey here. After its dissolution in the 16th century, the site lay in ruins until French Benedictine monks, exiled in the early 1900s, rebuilt the monastery we see today. Completed in 1912 and designed by Dom Paul Bellot, the Abbey’s striking red-brick architecture blends Romanesque and Byzantine influences, making it one of the most remarkable religious buildings of the 20th century. The remaining medieval ruins and tranquil gardens serve as a powerful reminder of faith endured through time.
