2023 Queen Sofía Spanish Institute Translation Prize
The 2023 Queen Sofía Spanish Institute Translation Prize is a $10,000 prize honoring the best English translation of a work written originally in the Spanish language. Among the finalists are translated works written by renowned authors from across the Spanish-speaking world: Chile, Colombia, and Spain. The four shortlist texts were selected by a distinguished Reading Committee comprised of experts in translation: Heather Cleary; Amalia Gladhart, and Sophie Hughes, Chair.
The ceremony will take place at the New York University King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center (NYU KJCC), 53 Washington Square S, New York, NY 10012, on Tuesday, November 14th at 7:00pm.
Join us for the announcement of the winner and for a conversation about the winning translation followed by a Q&A with special guests Juan Gabriel Vásquez, as part of a partnership with Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial; Samantha Schnee, Founding Editor and Board Chair, Words Without Borders; and Heather Cleary, senior member of the Translation Prize's jury.
After the ceremony you are invited to join us for a Spanish cocktail hour.
Doors will open at 6:45pm. Please note that seating is limited and RSVPs are required for entry.
