Queer@King's is delighted to host Lisa Gornick for a screening and discussion of her film, Do I Love You?

Do I Love You? is the first feature film of Lisa Gornick. Shot in 2001 and released to critical acclaim and festival awards in 2003, this is a 73-minute example of no budget first person filmmaking. Made without industry funding it did get some respect afterwards.

The film arose out of the question Gornick posed herself: Why am I a lesbian? She was frustrated by some male filmmaker acquaintances thinking they knew the answer and would make the ultimate lesbian film, so out of pique she took her mini dv camera, taught herself to edit and then ran some auditions using dialogues she wrote about her frustrations and her questions on lesbian life.

The film was shot with available light, separate sound and used a music track from Cuba - randomly chosen by a producer friend. The film from start to finish was made outside the film industry system using the excitement of creating together as a small band of people hanging about acting, holding a boom or making some food. It still found its way to festivals, reviews and distribution. Curve Magazine USA called it “one of the two or three best lesbian films ever! You heard me, ever!”
