Queer@King's Reading Group: Lola Olufemi's Experiments in Imagining Otherwise

The Queer@King's Reading Group is back! This year's Group will meet monthly and be led by KCL doctoral researchers Jake Ferguson (they/them), Alex Jarvis (they/them) and Emma Simonini (they/them).

The Group's 2026/27 series kicks off with a foray into Lola Olufemi's exquisite Experiments in Imagining Otherwise (Hajar Press, 2021). We will discuss a 35-page excerpt, which can be accessed here as a PDF.

The book's publisher describes the text as 'a book of failure and mistakes.... In playful written experiments, Lola Olufemi navigates the space between what is and what could be. Weaving together fragmentary reflections in prose and poetry, this is an exploration of the possibility of living differently, grounded in black feminist scholarship and political organising'.

For more information or questions about the Group, please contact jake.ferguson@kcl.ac.uk, alex.jarvis@kcl.ac.uk and emma.simonini@kcl.ac.uk.

If you are a non-KCL staff or student, please arrive early to sign in with reception and find the room. Map to Bush House South entry (PDF)
