Thank You for Calling the Lesbian Line: Talk & Workshop
Pick up the phone (metaphorically… unless you’re calling a friend to come with you) and join us for a fabulously queer afternoon celebrating lesbian history, creativity, and community!
Author Elizabeth Lovatt will be dialling in (not literally, she’ll be there in person!) to chat about her brand-new book Thank You for Calling the Lesbian Line – a love letter to those anonymous, brave voices on the other end of the line that helped shape lesbian lives across the UK. Expect stories, sass, and maybe even a tear or two! She'll be joinedby two local legends who actually volunteered for Norwich’s very own Lesbian Line back in the day. They’ll be sharing their experiences, from the challenges to the chuckles.
“Thank You for Calling the Lesbian Line is a remarkable piece of work, no less a debut. A gift for those of us who have lived in our queer skins for many decades, and for young lesbians who are looking for a primer in lesbian history, an understanding of what it means to look for identity and place in our community.” - Kerry Hudson, The Guardian
Plus, we'll be going full time-travel mode, bringing out the historic Norwich Lesbian Line archive for your perusal - nostalgia, rotary phones, and queer flyers galore! Feeling inspired? We’ll roll up our sleeves and get crafty together in a zine-making workshop. Whether you're a glue-stick pro or zine-curious, come help us create something collective and beautiful out of what we've heard.
You’ll also be able to grab your very own copy of Elizabeth’s book (trust us, it’s a keeper) and get it signed (possibly with a heartfelt note, definitely with lesbian love).
Whether you’re a seasoned sapphic soul or new to queer community events, come along, be inspired, and make a bit of herstory with us.
Free entry. Good vibes. Big dyke energy.
(This talk and workshop is open to all, and the space is wheelchair accessible. If you have any other accessibility requirements, please contact us so we can accommodate you!)
