Description
Through the keyhole at Quintimacy
Quintimacy (founded by Beck Thom) reached an exciting milestone of our 10th weekend event in May 2024.
Over the past 8 years, Quintimacy has gained a reputation for doing things well in creating sexuality-themed events and workshops for queer and trans people. The overwhelmingly positive testimonials and word of mouth referrals speak for themselves.
What do I mean by 'doing things well'?
I mean aiming towards a high degree of trauma-informed safety and the vital importance of high standard consent practice being the basis of everything we do.
I mean our efforts to create an unapologetically queer and trans centred and inclusive space where the wide spectrum of embodied and erotic experiences are welcomed and where we optimise the possibility of queer joy and gender euphoria.
I mean how we recognise and embrace neurodivergence and neurodivergent adjacent/sensory experiences and needs.
I mean the many ways we create and co-create a practical, emotional and energetic container that holds the work we are doing together.
I don’t mean perfect, and we are always making improvements. We also acknowledge that we’re all living through difficult times and that co-creating safe and inclusive enough spaces in the face of this is challenging indeed.
Over time, through dedicating myself fulltime to this project, and much practice and reflection with others, Quintimacy now has its own recognisable form and ‘culture’, with core features, pieces and rhythms that are woven throughout.
One way to get an insight into what is happening is to attend a Quintimacy weekend, but of course this is not possible or desirable to everyone (particularly because they are exclusively queer/trans spaces). And at an event, Beck will not have time or capacity to answer questions about the 'why', the 'meta' of what is happening, or to offer advice about your own events or practice.
So, for this reason, I want to offer an opportunity for other practitioners and counsellors to learn what these are, as if 'looking through the keyhole' (and backstage) into the design, organisation and execution of Quintimacy events.
What will the session cover?
I will share the practical steps and design features of Quintimacy that support care-full and caring practice in the following three (overlapping) areas…
Consent and safety
Gender and sexuality
Neurodivergence.
In this 2.5 hour Zoom session, you will gain an insight into what we do in practice at a Quintimacy event and the ideological and theoretical reasoning for doing so. It is intended that attendees can consider how they can adopt and adapt these ideas and practices for their own events and workshops.
There will be structured opportunities to ask questions that are relevant to your particular setting and work.
Beck delivers Quintimacy events with a range of co-facilitators who are also counsellors, somatic practitioners and Certified Sexological Bodyworkers - their input and ideas will also be present in the materials and attributed so you can also benefit from their work..
This session is for;
Organisers of intimacy-related events who want to improve their offerings on the 3 intersections above.
Counsellors, therapists, coaches and sexuality practitioners who wish to know more about Quintimacy events with a view to recommending to clients.
Sexuality practitioners, educators and bodyworkers who want to improve access and inclusivity of your work and to expand to be more fully inclusive of LGBTQ and queer and trans attendees.
Practitioners and professionals of any and all gender and sexualities are welcome.
Recording
The teaching parts of the session will be recorded and made available to attendees and ticket holders within 48 hours afterwards and will be available for 2 weeks after the event. All voices, names and faces other than Beck’s will be edited out of recordings.
This can be a standalone session, or can follow onto other opportunities, such as...
- one to one mentoring sessions with Beck, exploring your specific workshop/offering and how you can enhance it and build your confidence in your space/offering.
- Further online workshops and group sessions focussing on a specific area of practice, e.g trans centredness or creating a nervous system friendly, trauma-informed space.
- Further online workshop for particular kinds of practitioners (e.g. queer/trans organisers of sexuality/intimacy related events or people who want to be, or allies to LGBTQ+ people who want to shape their offerings to be more embracing and affirmative).
Cost
Standard ticket - £48
Subsidised ticket - £25
Most practitioners/professionals should pay the STANDARD ticket, so please look at this first and consider if you can afford to pay this. If you are on a low income/marginalised in various ways or currently unwaged and unable to afford the Standard ticket, you are welcome to purchase a SUBSIDISED ticket (limited tickets available). On any ticket tier you have the option of adding an extra amount to support. Thankyou for paying what you can to help make Quintimacy sustainable.
Cancellations
Cancellations 7 days before event - a full refund (minus all booking fees) will be offered.
Cancellations less than 3 days before event - I regret no refunds can be given. In exceptional circumstances, I may be able to transfer your ticket cost onto a future event. If you cannot attend, you have access to the recording for 2 weeks.
Unfortunately, no refunds can be offered once the event has started, if you decide to leave for any reason, or in the unlikely case we ask someone to leave because of safety/behaviour etc.
Any refunds are done via BACS (bank transfer) and we would require your bank details to complete this.
Confidentiality
Given that this is a CPD event for practitioners and practitioners of various kinds, it is likely that most people are comfortable with a level of openness about their attendance. However, the content of what people share about their own lived experiences, their own stories about events they have attended, and their own personal and professional challenges may be of a sensitive nature. Please be mindful of not sharing other group member’s material outside of this call in any way that will identify them.
Facilitator
Beck Thom (of Quintimacy/Somatic Sex Educator) will be holding the Zoom call and presenting the material.
Beck Thom is a Somatic Sex Educator and Certified Sexological Bodyworker. They are experienced in delivering online and in-person workshops for queer and trans people around embodiment, sex and pleasure. They work in a trauma-informed, consent-based way and aim to create spaces where together we develop enough safety and trust for intimate and transformative work to happen. Beck is a registered member of Association of Certified Sexological Bodyworkers and is fully insured.
Beck will be supported by Erin (he/him) who will be doing admin and tech to support the call.
