Raina Sokolov-Gonzalez is a singer, composer, piano player and music educator. Rooted in Jazz, R&B, Folk, and songwriter traditions, her work is known for its lyrical clarity and emotional vulnerability. Wonderland Magazine described Sokolov-Gonzalez as having a “…a seamless and sultry style that burst with vitality and vigour… delving into emotive, vulnerable songwriting and delivering stunning vocal performances.”
Coming from a musical family, Raina was exposed to a wide range of artistic influences as a child and music was a means of expression from a very early age. She went on to graduate from Bard College where she has a BA in Music Composition and Performance. She has performed at venues such as Joe’s Pub, Brooklyn Bowl, MoMaPS1, Roulette, Jazz and Lincoln Center, Homer Center for the Arts, Mohonk Mountain House, Sons D’Hiver Festival, and many others. Sokolov-Gonzalez has been a featured vocalist with artists such as William Parker, D.D. Jackson, and many others. She has been an artist in residence at Millay Center for the Arts (2023), Ancram Center for the Arts (2024), and was a member of the Joe’s Pub Working Group ‘24-’25.

Mary Esther Carter sings from her guts. Tuning into a raw and deeply soulful place, her sound transports you to a familiar yet uncharted territory. Inspired by artists like Mahalia Jackson, Ella Fitzgerald, Cat Power, and Tom Waits, her 2019 debut EP entitled “Doula”, blends elements of Folk, Blues, and Trip Hop with a flare for the experimental. She recently followed up Doula with her debut album entitled “Dust” on October 16th 2023. Her hypnotic and visceral live performances have captivated audiences across the country. She is passionate about conjuring her authentic voice and helping others do the same through the healing potential of vocalization, movement, and improvisation.
