John Sitton answers YOUR questions Live on Zoom - on coming through at 1970s Chelsea, on playing in all four divisions - and the story behind THAT fly-on-the-wall documentary. A night of entertaining and revealing football chat, lifting the lid on 70s-90s football, direct to your sofa. And, yes, you can bring your dinner. Tickets: £6 until 1pm on the day of the Zoomcast (or £20 including a book), then £10 (or £24 including a book).
The teenage John Sitton was given his Chelsea debut by Danny Blanchflower in February 1979 and played alongside club legends Ray Wilkins, Peter Osgood and Peter Bonetti. But his career at his boyhood club was cut short after a falling-out with another legend - the new club manager, Geoff Hurst. John went on to play for Millwall, Gillingham and Orient before a spell in management at Orient that was captured in a notorious Channel 4 documentary.
Twenty-five years on, John's memoir, 'A Little Knowledge is a Dangerous Thing' is a passionate inside story of what football in the 70s, 80s and 90s was really like. A world in which John, as Orient manager, offers to pay for transfers out of his own pocket, phones club sponsors asking for money to fund transport to an away game - and swaps coaching tips with rookie Wycombe Wanderers manager, Martin O'Neill. And all for £280 a week.
Bruised and disillusioned after his managerial baptism of fire with Orient, John was forced to make a new life outside football. But his heartfelt memoir shows his passion for and knowledge of the game remains intact.
Our Zoomcast with John will take us inside the world of top and lower-league football from the 70s to the 90s - and John will also give us his perspective on current football (and his frank views on contemporaries who are still in management). It will be a revealing and entertaining evening for all football fans, direct to your sofa.
Early Bird tickets to John Sitton in Conversation are just £6 UNTIL 1pm on the day (September 10). We are also offering a book-and-ticket deal (including P+P) for £20 (Please note: this deal only applies to UK ticket-buyers).
John will be in conversation with Duncan Steer, who has written for The Guardian, The Independent and Four Four Two magazine. Details of other upcoming author events and our regular Radio Days Book Club podcast are at www.radiodaysevents.com
