We are thrilled to welcome John Barclay, the former Sussex captain, as our first guest in a new series of cricket conversation nights at the Grand Central, next to Brighton station.
John is our guest on Wednesday 24 November, belatedly celebrating the paperback launch of his acclaimed memoir, 'Life Beyond the Airing Cupboard'.
We have an Early Bird ticket + book offer for £15 (Book is £10 RRP). Early Bird tickets only are £12/£10 for concessions.
John is also the author of The Appeal of the Championship, the diary of Sussex's 1981 season, when the side, under his captaincy, narrowly missed out on winning the County Championship for the first time in its history.
Both books evoke the world of county cricket in the 1970s and 1980s beautifully, a time when John played alongside greats of the game including Tony Greig and Imran Khan and against a who's who of international stars. John also compiled the book, 'Team Mates', featuring 27 cricketers' reflections on their favourite former colleagues.
Making his Sussex debut while still at school, John has been in the game for over 50 years. After playing, John has gone on to to lead the Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation charity for over 30 years and also managed two England tours during the era of Mike Atherton's captaincy.
John is a charming and highly entertaining speaker who has seen cricket from all sides and at all levels over the last half century and we hope you can join us for what is sure to be a very enjoyable evening.
John will be in conversation with Duncan Steer, former editor of Spin cricket magazine and now a regular host of events around the country with guests from sport and entertainment. There will be a chance to ask your own questions.
Early Bird tickets are £12/£10 for concessions. We have an Early Bird ticket + book offer for £15 (Book is £10 RRP).
The Nightingale Room is a lovely, intimate cabaret room above the Grand Central pub, just next to Brighton station with drinks at pub prices. Capacity is very limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.
