Thirty years in a hire car: Jeremy Whittle's True Tales of the Tour de France:
Wed 1 Mar 2023 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM GMT
Burdall's Yard, ba1 5nh
Description
We are delighted to welcome veteran Tour de France correspondent and author Jeremy Whittle as our first Bath Cycling Nights guest of 2023.
As cycling correspondent to, first, The Times and now The Guardian, Jeremy has reported on all of the major stories in world cycling over the last 25 years and had close-to dealings with everyone from Greg LeMond to Tadej Pogacar, Bradley Wiggins to Lance Armstrong, Nicole Cooke to Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig.
Jeremy is the author of the acclaimed 'Bad Blood: The Secret Life of the Tour de France' and, most recently, 'Ventoux: Sacrifice and Suffering on the Giant of Provence'. His first book - Yellow Fever - told the inside story of the calamitous 1998 Tour.
In this special night in Bath, Jeremy will be telling the stories behind the stories and passing on some of his front-row observations that did not make it to print.
Jeremy was one of the founders of Procycling magazine and, alongside his own acclaimed, often hard-hitting books, he has worked closely with both David Millar and Jonathan Vaughters on their own memoirs and been a mainstay of BBC Five Live's Bespoke podcast.
At Burdall's Yard - our first time at this new venue - Jeremy will look back over30 years spent following the drama, shock and intrigue of road racing and assess the future direction of a sport going through huge and turbulent change.
Early Bird tickets are £12.
