Rainbow Owls is hosting their first LGBTQ+ and allies fan conference, in association with Fans for Diversity, at Sheffield Wednesday FC!

This event will provide an opportunity for our members, as well as other fans and external stakeholders, to meet each other in-person and learn about the current state of LGBTQ+ football.

Entry is free for everybody and will be held at the club's in-stadium hospitality suite, The Wednesday Tap, which is based beneath the South Stand.

You can access The Wednesday Tap in two ways. You can reach it from the Parkside Road entrance by going down the left outdoor stairs after crossing the stadium footbridge, or you can enter it from the Penistone Road entrance that is at the stadium ground floor level.

Parking for the event will be available onsite at Hillsborough Stadium in the South Stand, which is accessible from Penistone Road. No cars, however, are to be left onsite overnight.

A bar at The Wednesday Tap will also be open for attendees to purchase drinks and bar snacks throughout the evening, while there will be a series of comfort breaks for people to socialise with each other.

The evening will have a packed schedule, including:

  • 6.00pm until 6.30pm - Doors open for arrivals.
  • 6.30pm until 6.45pm - Talk from Ben Winter, Deputy Head at Sheffield Wednesday FC's Community Programme, about how SWFCCP supports Rainbow Owls and Sheffield's LGBTQ+ community.
  • 6.45pm until 7pm - Comfort break.
  • 7pm until 8.15pm - Panel about working in LGBTQ+ football, featuring Mikey Connor (Liverpool FA referee and freelance sports presenter), Kirsty Tonner (Sheffield Wednesday Ladies FC goalkeeper), Kian Ward (Media Co-ordinator at Dulwich Hamlet) and Joe White (co-founder of Three Lions Pride). It will be hosted by Ollie Mitchell (Head of Sport at Forge Radio) and recorded as a podcast with Proud Changemakers.
  • 8.15pm until 8.30pm - Comfort break.
  • 8.30pm until 9pm - Talk from Fiona Moorcroft, Events & Training Co-ordinator at Rainbow Owls' LGBTQ+ charity partner SAYiT about their 25th anniversary, followed by the results of our charity raffle and a cheque donation to SAYiT.
