Look Mum No Computer - Opening Concert
Thu 22 Aug 2024 6:30 PM - 10:00 PM
St George's Church, CT11 8RE
Description
Our opening event at St George’s church will be a synth concert like no other, performed by the brilliant LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER, with two opening acts - Rosie Carr and Microfilm (Mark Bandola & Richard Armstrong-Sealand) creating a trifecta of sonic brilliance.
Sam Battle a.k.a Look Mum No Computer
For Look Mum No Computers headline performance he is rebuilding Potakosmo, a portable analog modular synthesiser (of course!) made for making esoteric electronic music.
Expect sounds from classical to upbeat electronic beats using utterly fascinating analog technology!
One of Sam's biggest projects is setting up an audio museum in Ramsgate called This Museum is (not) Obsolete, which houses a lot of his machine creations amongst many other historic experimental electronic items. This will be open to the public throughout the Festival of Sound as part of the Sonic Trail.
Microfilm (Richard Armstong-Sealand and Mark Bandola)
Both veterans of the national and international touring scene (and RFOS!), they have come together to create a diverse, kaleidoscopic sound using a somewhat stripped down instrument set-up. The music issues forth from a wee arsenal of synths, both analogue and digital - as well as their personal key element: Armstrong-Sealand's star-shaking theremin. No surprise then that the noise produced is kosmische in the extreme, and their pieces can evoke an ever-expanding universe - both ancient and infinite.
Microfilm is the new instrumental project of East Kent electronic artists Richard Armstrong-Sealand (ex keyboards for Sendelica & Aurora - and currently a member of last year's FoS headliners, The New Psychedelics), and Mark Bandola (former lead singer with London's The Lucy Show - who toured with New Order, REM and The Cocteau Twins - fronting megalomaniac solo project Typewriter, and former guitarist for The Ramsgate Hovercraft, who headlined the FoS in both 2018 and 2019).
The Ramsgate Festival of Sound will be their very first proper concert. (We are honoured!).
Rosie Carr
Artist and gardener Rosie Carr made debut album ‘yew’ over two years whilst training in horticulture. Her music has been described as “tudorgaze” and “Burial meets Springwatch”.
Expect tape loops sampled from mediaeval cassettes found in charity shops, euphoric waves of distortion gleaned from field recordings and homemade instruments, and shifting submerged drum patterns, eruptions of bird song, dripping water and crumbling plant material.
