Pottery Throwdown
Get messy and learn how to throw some pottery with Mike Child in his studio.
Mike has been making ceramics in the Thanet area for over 40 years and brings his experience both as potter and teacher to the festival in his own studio space.
After a brief explanation and guided demonstration of using clay on the wheel from Mike, participants will be able to try this fascinating technique for themselves gaining personal insights into its allure. With a maximum of only four people per class, everyone gets access to a potters wheel … Mike recommends old clothes or overalls for the event!!
The sessions are designed to focus on the experience, so there will be no ‘end product’ as such but participants are welcome to use photography to have mementos from the event.
Requirements:
Participants will need suitable protection for their clothing - such as overalls, an old shirt or apron, be able to roll sleeves up securely above the elbows and, if necessary, tie their hair back whilst working. The studio is cool so warm clothing is recommended.
Accessibility
The pottery studio is not wheelchair accessible, and the toilet is on the ground floor.
