Invasive Species Removal - Phragmites (Morning)
We will be working in areas that are experiencing invasion pressure from Common Reed (Phragmites australis). Using sharpened spades, we will be severing underground rhizomes and removing Common Reed canes from the site. We may also be tarping and/or planting native species.
Common Reed is considered one of the most aggressive invasive species in wetlands. Dense infestations persist through a network of underground rhizomes that provide an energy source for the plant, outcompeting native plants for water and nutrients.
