Formations & Playing Positions: An Exploration (Short Course)

Ray Power Coach Education is very proud to bring you its newest coach development offer, which mixes pre-recorded On Demand videos and the recording of a live online class!

In this 4-lesson Short course, best-selling coaching author, Ray Power, will take the coach on an exploration beyond the surface-level knowledge of Playing Formations and Playing Positions.

Due to many coaches ‘coaching lens’ (their background and experiences in football) there is a “first gear”, surface-level relationship with both formations and positions. There is a lot of rigid thinking which is embedded in our game - the influence from the coach you had as a kid, to the analysis on popular TV, most of which is just for casual football fans, rather than developing coaches and game thinkers. Ray aims to breakthrough this inherent ‘belief system’  and expose coaches to a deeper level of seeing the game.

Rather than being the end of the tactical discussion, formations and playing positions are just a starting-point when it comes to developing and understanding team tactics. This course will first explore your 'Base Formation' and how secondary formations can morph from it, before moving our journey towards Playing Positions. Here, we will focus on different attributes of different players, but who may occupy the same playing position. This exploration will provide the coach with new and fresh ideas, beyond the surface-level ideas spoken about in the mainstream.

Learning Outcome: For learners to recognise the coaching fraternity’s long-standing, limited ideas around formations and playing positions - and learning to break through them.

Lesson 2 - Formations - Beyond the Numbers - OnDemand Lesson, available upon registration

Learning Outcome: Learners will explore the true dynamism of the game and how we use ‘Base Formations’ and subsequent changes from that base.

Lesson 3 - Playing Positions - A Revolution  - OnDemand Lesson, available upon registration

Learning Outcome: Coaches will take a deep-drive (driven by data) on modern playing positions, understand how the analysis of positions are changing.

Lesson 4 - Q&A with Ray Power - LIVE Zoom-Based available upon registration

Participants will receive further reading material to support their learning, and have an opportunity to ask questions and share the details / results of their learning journey with Ray.
