Open Mic & Practical Chat: FIRST DRAFT, LAST DRAFT? (WPN Member Ticket)
Sun 27 Oct 2024 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM GMT
Online, Zoom
Description
Join hosts Jen Feroze and Degna Stone for a Sunday afternoon delve into poetry - come as you are!
This month we’re asking how you know when a poem is finished.
Occasionally a poem will arrive like a gift, fully formed. Sometimes you've been writing a poem in your head for so long, all you need to do is transcribe it. More often, a poem needs a few drafts to find its final form. Whichever route your poem takes, how do you know when it's finished? We may not land on a definitive answer but we'll give it a good try!
Our regular open mic will showcase poems from our brilliant network of women poets. There's no set theme this month, and we welcome all women poets at any stage of their career to sign up and take part.
There'll also be the option to connect with other women poets in our welcoming, low-pressure breakout rooms from 2pm.
Join us on Sunday 27 October from 12.30–2.30pm!

The sign-up form will close on Thursday 17 October, or when we reach 14 open mic readers, whichever comes later.
Priority is given to first time readers.

WHAT TO EXPECT...
Please note, that once the open mic has started, latecomers will be admitted in the breaks between each poet.
12.30 - 12.35 pm - Welcome
12.35 - 1.35 pm - Our open mic is one poem per person, max 14 line-up. We screen share your poems for accessibility. Plus, it's wonderful to see people's craft at work.
1.35 - 2 pm - Our practical chat is always lively and inspiring. You don't need to be an expert to join the conversation, your curiosity is more than enough! Bring your compassion and encouragement, and let's see where the conversation will take us.
2 - 2.30 pm - Our optional breakout rooms give you the opportunity to continue the conversation in smaller groups. They're also the perfect place to make connections with other women poets across the UK, so stick around if you can.
