Nocturnal Nature walk at Chester Zoo

The City Nature Challenge is a global wildlife recording event which unites people in over 500 City Regions all over the world for 4 days of nature observation. 

During this exciting evening event, we're joined by experts from Chester Zoo and RECORD as we focus on noticing and recording nocturnal UK species on the zoo site. 

What to expect:

• As the sun sets, we'll be using the iNaturalist app to record any dusk wildlife which we can spot in the zoo's Nature Reserve and carpark area.
• Sally from the zoo will then give us an introduction to UK bats before we head off on a bat walk, using bat detectors to listen in on echolocation calls made by bats.
• We'll also be setting a moth trap (basically a big bright light to attract moths!) and dropping by towards the end of the session to see if we've caught anything.

Accessibility: We will be taking  a slow stroll through the zoo's carpark, Nature Reserve and the adjoining bridleway. The paths are well surfaced but are steep in some areas.  If you have any mobility needs or other additional needs please do not hesitate to get in touch with us ahead of the event to discuss (email info@record-lrc.co.uk).

This walk is aimed at adults and older children, however anyone is welcome to attend (under 18s need to be accompanied and supervised by an adult). The event is free to attend, however please make sure you book tickets for everyone attending through Ticket Tailor as there are limited numbers. More information on the exact meeting point and what to bring along will be emailed to you when you book - please check your spam emails if this doesn't arrive.

Please note - this free event is focussed on UK native species and does not include entrance to the main Chester Zoo site. Additionally we are searching for wild species - we cannot guarantee their presence on the event. The event is likely to be cancelled in the event of bad weather, we'll inform those who have booked via email if this happens.
