Do you want to contribute to not one but TWO major wildlife recording events?!

Join us together as we document the wildlife of a hidden part of the site using the free iNaturalist app. This event is part of both

  • iNat Together - a global event bringing together wildlife recorders united by a love for iNaturalist
  • Spotted on Site - a national campaign to document native species on Zoo and Aquarium sites across Britain during a week-long Autumn Bioblitz

No prior wildlife knowledge or iNaturalist experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to get stuck in and learn as you go.

What to expect:

🌱 Learn the tools of the trade
Get hands-on guidance using the free iNaturalist app — we'll run through the basics for anyone unfamiliar with the app. For those who already use it, there's the chance to share your tips and tricks with others.

🦋 Sharpen your ID skills
Discover the plants and animals living on the Chester Zoo Estate with expert support and identification tips from the Chester Zoo and RECORD team.

📊 Make a real impact
Every observation you log contributes to vital citizen science data, helping us understand how nature is doing — and how we can protect it.

Important to note:

  • Accessibility: The part of the Estate we are visiting is managed for wildlife and is not normally open to the public. Unfortunately there are no marked footpaths and we will be traversing rough, uneven ground with small slopes. There is a 15-20 minute walk from our meeting point to the site. If this poses a difficultly for you, we we are also running a similar event on Sunday 27 September at Chester Zoo Nature Reserve - the Nature Reserve has marked paths and is much more accessible. Click here for more information on this event. If you have any mobility needs or other additional needs please do not hesitate to get in touch with us ahead of the event to discuss event suitability and any adjustments we can make (email info@record-lrc.co.uk or call 01244394514).
  • This session is aimed at adults only, due to the nature of the site we are visiting.
  • The event is free to attend and you do not need to pay for zoo entry to take part.
  • Please note that the event takes places in the Chester Zoo Estate (the land surrounding the main zoo) and will therefore not inlcude any access to the main zoo site.
  • There is free parking in Chester Zoo's main carpark.

More information including the exact meeting point will be emailed to you when you book on - please check your spam emails if you have not heard from us.

The session is hosted by Chester Zoo and RECORD as part of the Networks for Nature project.
