Shadows of Shame
An Extended Learning Workshop · 3 Hours
Shadows of Shame
With Troy L. Love, MSW, LCSW
About the workshop
Many of our most painful patterns are driven by shame we learned long before we had words for it. In this workshop, we explore the “Shadows of Shame,” the protective parts of ourselves that took shape in response to unmet attachment needs and old emotional wounds. Through storytelling, reflection, and practical tools from the Finding Peace model, we look at how to recognize these patterns, understand the needs underneath them, and begin responding with more awareness, compassion, and emotional regulation.
What you'll take from our time together
By the end of the workshop, you'll be able to:
- Understand what the “Shadows of Shame” are, and how shame-based protective strategies develop in response to unmet attachment needs and emotional wounds.
- Recognize common shame-driven patterns, things like defensiveness, control, withdrawal, perfectionism, or self-criticism, in yourself and in others.
- See the connection between attachment wounds and the shame responses that shape how we behave in relationships.
- Notice how shame-based coping affects emotional regulation, communication, and relational trust.
- Use practical tools from the Finding Peace framework to build awareness, ease shame reactivity, and move toward healthier ways of relating.
