Bobby Robson: Screening + Q&A
The Durham Miners' Association is proud to host a very special event in celebration of the great Bobby Robson.
A screening of the new film Bobby Robson – More Than A Manager will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with some of the people who knew him best. The DMA is particularly proud that we'll be joined at Redhills by the Robson family.
Sir Bobby was born in Sacriston and grew up in Langley Park, where he began his working life alongside his father Phillip at the local colliery.
A panel discussion and Q&A will follow the screening. The panel will include Sir Bobby's son, Andrew Robson, former Newcastle United player Olivier Bernard, longtime friend Charlie Woods, and European Cup winner David Geddis. The panel will be chaired by The Guardian's Louise Taylor.
• Olivier Bernard played under Sir Bobby at Newcastle United between 2000 and 2004, and is currently the chairman of Durham City AFC
• Charlie Woods, a former Newcastle United and Ipswich player, worked for Sir Bobby as coach at Ipswich Town, scout for England, and as Chief Scout at Newcastle United.
• David Geddis played in Sir Bobby's FA Cup winning team at Ipswich, and was a coach at Newcastle United. He won the league championship and European Cup with Aston Villa.
• Louise Taylor is the North East Football Correspondent for The Guardian and covered Newcastle United during Sir Bobby's time as manager
The event will take place during the World Cup, on Friday, June 29.
• Doors open at 6pm.
• Screening begins a 7pm
• Interval at 8.40pm
• Discussion and Q&A to begin at 9pm
Half of all funds raised from ticket sales will go to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
