Join Us for a Special Fundraising Dinner
We are delighted to invite you to an exclusive fundraising dinner with limited spaces due to capacity. The funds raised will support clinical training of over 1,500 dental students in Gaza. Prior to the fundraising dinner, we have organised a panel discussion and keynote speech by Ambassador Husam Zomlot at 2pm on 26th April at King's College London. Tickets for the panel discussion are available at the following link: https://buytickets.at/refugeecrisisfoundation/1593355
Refugee Crisis Foundation, a UK registered charity, and PalMed Academy, have been providing an educational support program for the dental schools in Gaza. This initiative aims to equip students with the necessary resources and clinical training to complete their education and become the future dental healthcare workforce in Gaza.We are working directly with the deans of the dental schools at Al Azhar University and the University of Palestine to rebuild dental education and training. Currently, 1,591 dental students in Gaza lack access to essential clinical training needed to qualify and practice.
Supporting Clinical Training
To enable students to complete their education, we will be supporting the universities by providing:
1. Access to Dental Clinics
Without functioning dental clinics, students cannot complete their required clinical training. We will rent private dental clinics in Gaza City and Deir al-Balah, ensuring access to dental chairs and instruments. The students will treat patients free of charge and supervision provided by university clinical tutors.
2. Phantom Head Simulation Centres
The existing phantom head labs in Gaza have been destroyed, preventing students from learning essential clinical procedures. To address this, we will build new simulation labs. These labs will feature 40 fully equipped phantom head stations, allowing pre-clinical students to develop their skills before treating patients. This will be accessible to both universities.
Please watch the video below which shows the dental schools prior to October 2023 and the destruction post-ceasefire.
Why Your Support Matters
Urgent funding is needed to support dental students in Gaza with their clinical training. This initiative will directly benefit:
- Dental schools in Gaza, ensuring they continue functioning and educating students.
- Dental students, enabling them to complete their training, graduate, and strengthen the local healthcare workforce.
- Teaching staff, who will receive stipends for supervising students, allowing them to continue working and supporting their families.
- Patients in Gaza, many of whom have had limited or no access to free dental care since October 2023.
