Scaling Smart Local Energy Systems in London
Regen is working with the Greater London Authority (GLA) to explore how Smart Local Energy Systems (SLES) can help overcome grid constraints, make better use of existing energy infrastructure and support London's transition to a cleaner, more affordable and flexible energy system.
By bringing together local energy generation, storage, flexible demand and innovative technologies and business models, SLES have the potential to support a more coordinated and efficient approach to meeting London's energy needs.
This project will explore how these approaches could be developed and scaled across London, identifying opportunities, barriers and potential pathways towards delivery.
Join the GLA and Regen for a 30-minute introduction to the project - 12th November 2026 (12.30-13.00)
Our introductory webinar will cover:
- The GLA's wider ambitions for flexibility and smart local energy systems in London.
- The objectives and priorities of the project.
- How organisations can stay informed and potentially contribute as the work develops.
- An opportunity to ask questions.

What will the project do?
Regen will work with the GLA and stakeholders across the energy sector to:
- Develop and assess different SLES archetypes relevant to London's energy system.
- Explore how SLES could help address grid constraints and enable greater flexibility.
- Identify opportunities, capabilities and partnerships that could support future delivery and unlock tangible benefits for consumers.
- Understand the technical, commercial and institutional barriers to scaling SLES.
- Develop recommendations and pathways to support further development and investment.
Stakeholder engagement will be central to the project, bringing together expertise and perspectives from across London's energy ecosystem.
Who should get involved?
We'd welcome interest from organisations working in or contributing to local energy systems, including:
- Technology and solution providers.
- Aggregators, flexibility providers and energy suppliers.
- Energy storage and generation providers.
- Commercial and industrial energy users.
- Network and energy system technology partners.
- Community energy organisations.
- Other organisations with relevant expertise, capabilities or an interest in SLES development.
Whether you're already delivering innovative energy solutions or are interested in emerging opportunities, we'd welcome the opportunity to connect.
