LONDON DZOGCHEN TEACHINGS 2026

We are delighted and honoured that Drubdra Khenpo will be returning once again to give Dzogchen teachings in London, this time for a longer 4 day retreat: May 21st-24th 2026.

In this retreat, Drubdra Khenpo Tsultrim Tenzin Rinpoche will be teaching and transmitting “The Twelve Small Tantras of the Sphere of Bodhicitta.”

This is from the Outer Cycle of the Zhangzhung Nyengyü, (Oral Transmission of Zhangzhung) which is one of the most important Dzogchen cycles in the Bön tradition.

It contains the essential teachings of Dzogchen as transmitted through the ancient Zhangzhung kingdom (in western Tibet).

The Twelve Small Tantras (Gyud Bu Chung Chu Nyi) form a core part of this transmission.

These texts contain:

  • Instructions on the nature of mind (sems nyid)

  • Teachings on rigpa (pure awareness)

  • Methods for direct introduction to one’s true nature

  • Practices for integrating view, meditation, and conduct

  • Guidance on trekchö (cutting through) and tögal (direct crossing)

These tantras are considered “small” not because they’re less important, but because they’re more concise compared to larger tantra cycles.

They represent the pith instructions passed down through realized masters of the Zhangzhung lineage.

These precious teaching are included in the great Dzogchen Master Chögyal Namkhai Norbu's book, The Precious Vase: Instructions on the Base of Santi Maha Sangha, (2.8.13. The Essence of Dzogchen in the Oral Transmission of Shang Shung).

These teachings are suitable for anyone who has an interest in receiving Dzogchen teachings.

MORE INFORMATION ON ZHANGZHUNG NYENGYÜ

Zhangzhung Nyengyü, (Zhang zhung snyan rgyud / ཞང་ཞུང་སྙན་རྒྱུད།) is the most ancient among all Bӧnpo and Buddhist Dzogchen cycles and has been transmitted through an uninterrupted transmission lineage from Kuntu Zangpo (Kun tu bzang po / ཀུན་ཏུ་བཟང་པོ།) up until now. Unlike many teachings, it has never been concealed as terma (gter ma / གཏེར་མ།). Originally this cycle was transmitted only through Single Lineage (gcig brgyud / གཅིག་བརྒྱུད།) from one master to only one disciple, whispered through a bamboo pipe right into the ear. In the 8 th century AD, during the second persecution of Yungdrung Bӧn, Tapihritsa (Ta pi hri tsa / ཏ་པི་ཧྲི་ཙ།) gave his disciple, Nangzher Lӧdpo (sNang bzher lod po / སྣང་བཞེར་ལོད་པོ།), permission to write down the teachings of this cycle and transmit it more widely but only to qualified students.

Nevertheless, the Single Lineage transmission method through which some unwritten instructions are transmitted from one Lineage Holder to another (brgyud pa’i bla ma /་བརྒྱུད་པའི་བླ་མ།) is still used today. In the 10 th century AD, the great master Pӧnchen Tsenpo (Dpon chen btsan po / དཔོན་ཆེན་བཙན་པོ།) translated Zhangzhung Nyengyü, texts from the language of Zhangzhung into Tibetan and up to the 20th century these precious teachings were transmitted from one generation to another to a limited number of students.

In the 20th Century, the main Protectress of Yungdrung Bӧn, Machog Sipai Gyalmo (Ma mchog Srid pa’i rgayl mo / མ་མཆོག་སྲིད་པའི་རྒྱལ་མོ།) appeared to the teacher of Yongdzin Lopӧn Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche, Yongdzin Lopӧn Sanggye Tenzin Rinpoche (Yongs ‘dzin Slob dpon Sangs rgyas bstan ‘dzin Rin po che / ཡོངས་འཛིན་སློབ་དཔོན་སངས་རྒྱས་བསྟན་འཛིན་རིན་པོ་ཆེ།), and gave him instruction to teach this cycle more openly to a larger circle of students in order to prevent it from disappearing altogether. That is why Yongdzin Lopӧn Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche began transmitting this cycle also to his Western students in the end of 1980s.
