A Private Palace in the Heart of St James’s
Join Remarkable Places for a special afternoon at Spencer House, one of London’s finest surviving eighteenth-century aristocratic houses.
Built in the 1750s for the first Earl Spencer, Spencer House was designed to impress. Overlooking Green Park, its magnificent State Rooms were at the heart of fashionable Georgian society and welcomed generations of politicians, artists, royalty and members of the Spencer family. After years of decline and wartime damage, the house underwent an extraordinary ten-year restoration and today offers a rare glimpse into the splendour of aristocratic London.
Our visit begins at 2.30pm with a private guided tour of the eight State Rooms, exploring the history of the Spencer family as well as the house’s architecture, interiors, paintings and furniture.
After the tour, we’ll stay at Spencer House for coffee and refreshments.
As always with Remarkable Places, the afternoon is designed to be as much about meeting people and sharing the experience as discovering somewhere remarkable.
