A Wisconsin Dairy Farm & So Much More: A Renewed Purpose in a Changing World
Sat Aug 6, 2022 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM CDT
Wegmueller Dairy, 53566
Description
Experience a quintessential Wisconsin dairy farm and meet your farmer (and cows!) up close and personal.
Join us for an interactive farm tour, complete with a stop in the milking barn where you'll meet the Wegmueller's Brown Swiss Cow herd. Additionally, you'll get a chance to milk Darlene, the farm's official milking demonstration cow and feed an adorable baby calf. We'll also feed the pigs and see the chickens, horses, donkeys, and produce garden while touring the farm.
Since the 1930s, the Wegmueller Farm has epitomized the heart of Wisconsin's agricultural roots: a family-run, grass-based dairy providing milk for local cheese factories. Ashley and Dan are now the fourth generation running the registered Brown Swiss operation and diversified agri-tourism farmstay, reconnecting visitors to the land and animals.
Hear
the inspiring story of the farm's history and positive rural resilience
in a time where small farms are struggling to survive and a "bigger is
better" mindset seems to prevail. Most importantly, we'll talk about the
WHYs and HOWs of the changes made on the farm, why "getting bigger" or
"milking more cows" wasn't the answer, and what plans are coming next!
Bring those questions you've always had about dairy farms and we'll get
them answered (and maybe even share some insider tips on where to buy
the best cheese in Green County)
Workshop fee: $50.00 (adults) & $20 (children 5-17)
BONUS: Registration includes a free copy of the book Renewing the Countryside: WISCONSIN Stories of Sustainable Living, Working & Playing (a $26.95 value) will be made available to every couple, household or family participating in this workshop (one free copy per address).

About Wegmueller Dairy
The Wegmueller Farm is a fourth generation Brown Swiss dairy farm. In recent years, the farm has diversified to include agri-tourism and outreach experiences in order to connect the general public with agriculture. Despite the trend of the "bigger is better" mindset that tends to encompass current agriculture, the Wegmueller Farm focuses on providing interactive experiences that better connect others with the animals and land. The farm includes a farm stay, horse experiences, and animal interaction.
Soil Sisters is an award-winning project of the non-profit Renewing the Countryside, bringing together women championing local food, community building, sustainable and organic agriculture and vibrant rural communities for collaboration, networking and cooking up change. The founding Soil Sisters in southern Wisconsin organize the annual Soil Sisters event the first weekend in August, the largest women-farmer led event of it's kind in the country. Since 2012, the Soil Sisters have opened their barn doors and farms for various workshops, culinary events and more.
