Conservation Connections: Personal support for accessing NRCS programs and resources
Twilight Pasture Walk & Rain Fall Simulator Demonstration
You’re invited to a pasture walk at Starry Nights Farm where Paul and Marisa Maggio practice rotational grazing with their organic beef herd. They utilized NRCS EQIP cost share to seed pastures, build their fending & install water lines and winter water jugs. They graze cow/calf/yearling trios, raise pastured pork and poultry and direct market all their products. They recently added a bed & breakfast to their farm. See how they keep bees at the farm for pollination of our pastures.
Meet other grazing experts and bring your questions!
A warm invite to beginning farmers and new landowners interested in conservation resources.
Event is free to attend.
Snacks will be served.
Event will follow current COVID-10 protocols.
Speakers include:
Paul and Marisa Maggio, Starry Nights Farm
Rhiannon Holden, NRCS Soil Conservationist
Kirsten Jurcek, Brattset Family Farm & Conservation Connector
Pasture walk highlights & expert input include:
Cost share for rotational grazing (pasture establishing, fencing & waterlines)
Soil health benefits of rotational grazing, including how it increases everything from farm resilience to pollinators to carbon sequestration and decreases erosion, nutrient loss and farmer risk
Bonus: Rainfall simulation demonstration
This demo will illustrate how soil health and water holding capacity are impacted by different agricultural production practices. We’ll discuss the relationship of these properties to runoff, erosion and water quantity and share techniques to improve soil health.
Contact Kirsten Jurcek at brattsetfamilyfarm@gmail.com or call/text 920-342-9504 with any questions.
Registrants will be added to both the Renewing the Countryside and local grazing mailing lists to keep in touch on future events and opportunities. Please let us know if you do not want to be added.
