Conservation Connections: An introduction to NRCS resources

Thu Aug 11, 2022 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM CDT E10025 690th Ave, Elk Mound, WI 54739, 54739

All are welcome to a pasture walk at Holm Girls Dairy where rotational grazing is being utilized to custom raise organic dairy heifers. Over many years, Doran and Mariann Holm have found resources at NRCS to establish quality pastures and a grazing plan for their farm. EQIP and CSP cost share programs have helped to interseed pastures, build fences, improve cattle lanes, establish a large waterway, provide woodland management, and fund a hoophouse.

The grazing network within River Country RC&D has provided invaluable advice, support and long lasting farmer friendships through countless pasture walks and local grazing conferences.

Meet other grazing experts and bring your questions. A warm
invite to beginning farmers and new landowners interested in conservation resources. Bring your questions and your kids!

Speakers include:

Doran Holm,
Holm Girls Dairy

Mariann Holm, Holm Girls Dairy, Conservation Connector

Mary C. Anderson, River Country RC&D President, DNR Grassland Specialist, Owner Operator Organic Grass Fed Finished Beef Ranch

Topics to be discussed include:

• Design and layout of fencing
• "Tools of the Trade"
• Managing your pasture for maximum regrowth
• Utilizing "low" value areas on your farm
• Pastures that last all season

Event is free to attend. Snacks will be served, generously donated by Organic Valley. Registration appreciated but walk-ups welcome.
