99 Poets Read Together

It’s like that Monks Walk for Peace, but not quiet. 

At 6:30PM on Saturday, March 21 at Boxyard RTP, 99 poets will walk through the parking lot and read together all at once in a real-life social media grid formation.

Part performance exhibition, part social experiment, the idea is to cut through the noise of our doom-scroll age with messages of hope, healing, and movement.

99 Poets Read Together accompanies a full weekend of other great programming at Triangle Poetry Festival, celebrating the artists, the heart-leading advocates, and the movers in the margins. 

All you have to do is show up and read 3 to 5 poems you or someone else wrote to drive to inspire change. Participants will receive free gift package, plus Third Angle will donate $10 for every participating poet to the community organization of their choice. First 25 signups will receive a Third Angle Poets T-shirt.

How It Works (The Rules)

1. No social media about this. Posts, stories, nothing. Invite word of mouth, share the signup page via text, email, DM and copy machine flier.

2. After you sign up, invite 3 other people. Include at least one to read, and one to watch. The other, fill in the blank.

3. Bring 3-5 poems to read aloud for 20 minutes straight, repeating if necessary. Keep this a nourishing space — NO HATE SPEECH, INFLAMMATORY/OBSCENE/INSULTING CONTENT ALLOWED.

Why 99 Poets?

Social media lured us in with the promise of showing our true selves to the world, but there was a catch – our bodies sit at home, alone, and our eyes hurt.

No more. Instead, 99 poets will read aloud in a grid in the street and your body moves to feel it all.
