How can we create a climate resilient city?

Climate resilience is firmly on the London Climate Action Week agenda, serving as one of the central themes for the week.

As part of Resilience First's programme on climate resilience, we are delighted to invite you to Resilience First’s headline event of the week: an event and networking reception focused on how business, together with others, can help create a more climate resilient city.

The event will focus on the actions the private sector should take independently and in collaboration with the others - government, civil society groups and local service providers – to adapt and become more resilient to climate events. What actions should we take now? How can we accelerate and scale necessary investment in resilience? What should a new UK government do to accelerate climate resilience decision making and implementation.

We will explore the key findings from the interim London Climate Resilience Report, with a thoughtful and lively discussion between two leaders on climate action: the report’s Chair, Emma Howard-Boyd CBE and Arup’s Global Director of Sustainable Development, Jo da Silva.

The London Climate Resilience Review is a first of its kind for a UK city. It represents a significant step forward in the recognition of the importance of climate resilience to the operation of a city and those who live and do business here. The findings - and lessons learnt on how to conduct a climate resilience review - can be applied to other cities around the world.

The interim report states unequivocally what is needed to build the resilience of London to climate change’s impacts: We need pace not perfection. A whole of society approach is needed and that includes businesses who make up so much of London’s economic and social ecosystem.
