Between 1969 and 2001 more than 1,000 people were killed by police,
but not a single officer was convicted of murder or manslaughter. This
was one of the major motivations for the filmmakers to make the featured
documentary, giving a voice to grieving families seeking justice. Since the film was made, impunity for police has continued.
INJUSTICE will begin at 7pm, followed by a Q&A with families and the filmmaker.
The Resistance Collective also welcomes you to our FREE multi-media exhibition Black Resistance. In
a vivid form, the exhibition showcases UK-based campaigns and movements
for progressive social change from the 1970s to the present day.
Powerful photos and video highlight the campaigns over deaths at the
hands of police or racists, such as Joy Gardner and Brian Douglas
through to Chris Kaba in 2022. It also features campaigns against
both structural and institutional racism, and celebrates the Resistance
which is core to Black cultural expression, such as Notting Hill
Carnival.
The expo is interactive, and you are invited to record your own resistance story, big or small, and have it added live to the exhibition.
Featured photographers: Denise Laura Baker, Kristian Buus, Wayne Campbell, Wayne Crichlow, Keir Gravil, David Hoffman, Jess Hurd, Thabo Jaiyesimi, Neil Kenlock, Neil Martinson, Simone Rudolphi, Guy Smallman, Don Travis.
PLEASE NOTE: There is no wheelchair access to the exhibition, as this a "meanwhile use" space and the lift is too small.
