Join us for a walk led by You are here zine, followed by collective reflections.

You are here emerged from a map installation of Deptford High Street and its surroundings, created for the Rhizomizing en route exhibition last summer. Mounted at Deptford Lounge library for over a month, the map was filled with and animated by doodles, drawings and pictures of memories contributed by visitors. The outcome is now translated into a zine. It is not only a carrier of the community’s memories and a space for reflections, but also a guide to exploring the neighbourhood.

Following the recent redevelopment announcement for Deptford High Street, it feels timely to gather and share our thoughts on how we imagine our community, how we become a community, and how localities shape our sense of community.

During the workshop, we will use the zine as a tool to guide our walk around the neighbourhood, and share our reflections from the project - on finding community in a locality, archiving collective memories, and walking as a way to approach these topics.



You are here is a collaboration between Stephanie Chung, Sim Orme, and Studio Biped.

About Rhizomizing en route

Took place in June-July 2024, Rhizomizing en route is a project about the ambivalent relationships between localities and the sense of belonging and community.

"Rhizomize" describes how roots are grown in a radial, unexpectable manner.

In this era of constant movement and displacement, we are urged to reconsider whether the prevailing discourses surrounding identities of diaspora, migrants, and so on suffice to encompass the complexity of our visceral experiences. Through an exhibition and workshops, this project serves as a platform to explore how we have been striving to belong, connect, lay down roots in a place, and locate our community, all while being perpetually on the move.
