Juilliard String Quartet

Hailed by The Boston Globe as “the most important American quartet in history,” the Juilliard String Quartet (JSQ) draws on a deep engagement with the classics while vibrantly championing new works. Founded in 1946, the ensemble brings profound commitment and unceasing curiosity to the string quartet literature. The JSQ honors its rich legacy with Letters to Ludwig, a multi-year commissioning project inviting living composers to engage with Beethoven’s late quartets. As the string quartet in residence at The Juilliard School in New York City, its current members—Areta Zhulla, Leonard Fu, Molly Carr, and Astrid Schween—are all highly sought-after educators.
