Big River Watch and Guided Walk
Big River Watch and Guided Walk
Need help?
Twice a year, the Rivers Trust runs a Big River Watch, and the next one takes place from 25th April to 1st May. Anyone can take part in these week-long citizen science surveys that help to build an important picture of river health across the UK and Ireland. To encourage people to take part Ribble Rivers Trust is running a group session at Edisford Bridge, which will be followed by an optional guided walk along the River Ribble.
Details: The event will begin with an introduction to who we are followed by instructions on how to take part in the Big River Watch survey. You will need to download the Big River Watch app onto your phone prior to the event, and will require internet connection or 4G to upload your results. We will then spend 20 minutes completing the survey.
Once the survey is complete you can either head home or join us for an optional guided walk. The walk will begin at Edisford Bridge, follow the river to Mitton Hall, and then head back down the other side. Please select the 'Survey Only' ticket if you do not wish to come on the walk.
In the event of heavy rain/strong winds, the event will be cancelled.
Meet Point/Location: We will be meeting at Edisford Road Car Park, Clitheroe, BB7 3LA, the what3words address is //shoebox.operation.daisy. If you have trouble finding us on the day, please call Naomi on 07496 636319.
Difficulty: The survey event is suitable for all ages and the site we will be conducting the survey is easily accessible. As for the walk, the route is flat for the majority of the walk with only some uneven terrain. There are however some styles to go over and one or two steeper inclines, and a small amount of road walking. The walk will take 2hrs, so whilst it's an easy route it is a longer walk and not recommended for anyone with restricted mobility.
