Guided Walk @ Burnley

Come join us on the 28th April for a guided walk following the Calder and Brun rivers in Burnley.

Event Description: Join us for a 7.7-mile walk starting from Thompson Park car park and following the River Brun and then Swinden water upstream before heading south through the villages of Worsthorne and Hurstwood. Cutting across farmland, descending through Wet Marl Wood till we meet the River Calder and follow it through Townley Park. Upon leaving the park we follow the Straight Mile along the canal that takes the route high above the Calder Valley, and returns to the route’s start.

Location: We will be meeting at Thompson Park car park, BB11 2AA. The what3words location is began.blunt.plant and grid reference 53.796289, -2.238007. We will be setting off promptly at 10am and will finish by at the latest of 3pm. It is pay and display at Thompson Park car park via MiPermit.

Difficulty:  This walk will take approximately 5 hrs and moderately difficult with some sections of stairs and incline. Largely good, with small sections of moderate incline and some un-pathed/un-surfaced sections. Footpaths and woodland tracks can be wet under foot.

What to bring: Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather, as well as suitable footwear like walking boots, walking trainers, or wellies. To help reduce the risk of bites, cuts and stings we also ask attendees to wear long sleeved tops and trousers. Please also bring refreshments such as water, and any snacks, we will stop for lunch around half way.

Facilities: Please note there are toilet facilities at the riverside car park in Towneley Park; and at The Boathouse by the play area in Thompson Park.
